Perl Overview
Perl is a municipality in the district Merzig-Wadern, in Saarland, Germany. It is situated on the right bank of the river Moselle, on the border with Luxembourg and France, approx. 25 km southeast of Luxembourg (city). It is joined by a bridge across the Moselle River with Schengen in Luxembourg. A fine Roman mosaic has been found in the village Nennig, part of the municipality of Perl.
Perl is located in the border triangle of Germany - France - Luxembourg, on the slopes to the right of Obermosel and extends far up on the Moselgau.

The earliest written documentation is from the 9th Century . The area belonged to Trier (Trier vacation rentals | Trier travel guide), Luxembourg, Lorraine, France and the empire of the Habsburgs. After the Congress of Vienna, Perl was Prussian until 1946. In the course of municipal reform in the early 1970s, 14 formerly independent communities of the greater community of Perl all merged.
